Lace Up! The Most Scenic Parkruns in Cape Town You Need to Try

Category Local News

If the idea of running (or walking) 5km makes you want to hit the snooze button, you’re not alone. But hear us out—Parkrun isn’t just about exercise; it’s a weekly excuse to get outside, meet great people, and explore some of the most beautiful spots Cape Town has to offer. And the best part? It’s free, it’s for everyone, and you can go at your own pace.

Whether you're a speedster chasing a personal best record, a casual jogger enjoying the scenery, or just here for the vibes (and possibly the post-run breakfast), there’s a Parkrun for you. Cape Town is home to some truly breathtaking routes—from beachfront bliss to forested trails and even vineyard views. So, lace up your takkies, grab a friend, and let’s take a tour of some of the best Parkruns around!

Parkruns: Find Your Perfect Fit

Green Point Parkrun – If you like your runs with a side of postcard-worthy views, this one’s for you. You’ll get glimpses of Table Mountain, the ocean, and the lush Green Point Urban Park on a smooth, easy course that welcomes both beginners and speed demons.

Zandvlei Parkrun – Located in Muizenberg, this route is for those who love a tranquil run (or walk) through wetlands, with the bonus of spotting some birdlife along the way. The mix of trails and boardwalks keeps things interesting!

Constantia Greenbelt Parkrun – If you enjoy running through a tunnel of trees with a bit of variety in terrain, this leafy Southern Suburbs route is a must-try. It’s scenic, slightly more challenging, and a great way to mix things up.

Plattekloof Parkrun – Want a bit of a challenge? This hilly course offers incredible views from the foot of the mountain. Your legs might complain, but your eyes will thank you.

Helderberg Parkrun – Set in Somerset West, this route takes you through peaceful vineyards with gorgeous mountain and ocean views. A perfect spot for a mindful run (or an excuse to visit a wine farm afterward).

Tokai Forest Parkrun – If you love shaded forest trails and that fresh pine-scented air, this one’s for you. A flat, peaceful course where you can pretend you’re in a nature documentary.

Brackenfell Parkrun – A family-friendly, relaxed option in the northern suburbs. It’s flat, easy-going, and a great place to start if you’re new to running.

Durbanville Parkrun – This one takes place at Meerendal Wine Estate, so you can justify your run with a post-run breakfast (or a sneaky wine tasting later). A stunning, slightly more challenging route through the vineyards.

Melkbosstrand Parkrun – Ever wanted to run along the beach? This coastal Parkrun lets you do just that, with the sound of waves as your background music. Just prepare for a little extra calf workout in the sand!

Paarl Parkrun – A beautifully flat course through Boland Park, with the majestic Paarl Mountain in the background. Smooth, easy, and perfect for beginners.

Franschhoek Parkrun – A Parkrun in wine country? Yes, please! This vineyard-lined route in the Cape Winelands is a bit more challenging but worth it for the scenery alone.

Why Parkrun? Because It’s More Than Just a Run

Aside from the obvious health benefits (and the chance to explore some of Cape Town’s best outdoor spots), Parkrun is a feel-good, community-driven event that welcomes everyone—whether you’re here to break records or just enjoy a morning walk with friends.

So why not give it a go this weekend? You might just find yourself hooked (and planning your next one before you’ve even caught your breath).
