Brackenfell at a glance

The Brackenfell lifestyle has all the features and facilities of a city, but the heart of a town. Enjoy our 'countryside feeling' and close-knit neighbourhoods, with residents walking their dogs, jogging and kids riding on their bicycles or catching fish in some of the local parks (Please note that all fish caught must be released 😊)

Brackenfell is situated at the gateway to the Cape Winelands. The area offers beautiful views of both Table Mountain and the peaceful Winelands mountains. Several wine estates and entertainment venues are on your doorstep, as well as popular mountain biking and hiking trails for the active bunch. The Scottish Immigrant, Henry George Walton, purchased a section of the farm, Kruispad in 1901 from Andries Brink. He named the purchased section Brackenfell after a fern that was common in the area (Bracken means fern; Fell means hill). It started out as a major road crossing and the township was established in 1913.

Today Brackenfell has become one of the most desirable Northern Suburbs of the Mother City and property is booming. With strategic planning and rapid development over the last years, residents have benefitted greatly from improved road infrastructure, as well as new residential, commercial and industrial developments. Residential properties offer an interesting mix of apartments, townhouses, security estates, upmarket luxury homes, as well as retirement villages.

Being a family orientated area, quality schools is a top priority, including Brackenfell Primary School and Brackenfell High School, Bastion Primary School and the new Protea Heights Academy High School plus the brand new Vredekloof Primary that opened its doors in 2019. Other schools include Paarl School for Neurologically Challenged Children and well as several private schools, including Curro (private primary school), Curro Castle (private nursery / pre-primary school) and Destinatus. Busses are also shuttling daily from the area to top Stellenbosch schools such as Paul Roos Gymnasium, Bloemhof Meisieskool and Rhenish Girls High. Stellenbosch University is only 17 km away, with University of the Western Cape is 10.6 km away.

Brackenfell residents are spoilt with a choice of shopping malls and first-class healthcare service providers including Cape Cate Medi-Clinic Private Hospital. Sport lovers have all major sport disciplines well catered for - including an indoor sports arena for action-netball, -cricket and -soccer.

if you enjoy some physical activities you can visit the Brackenfell Sport Arena or the Lockdown Paintball Park. For those who prefer sitting back and enjoying the moment, you can get some 3D action at Ster Kinekor IMAX at Cape Gate Shopping Centre or enjoy a walk in Bracken Nature Reserve and admire what Mother Nature has to offer.

We feel proud and privileged to be part of the Brackenfell community and the abundance it offers.
